Danger! Danger, Knit Robinson!

I have allotted time to this scarf I have to make by Sunday.  Complete one pattern repeat each day leaves 12 hours for a light blocking to make the cable pop.

I have been terribly hopeless in the face on new knits.  This sweater is irresistible.  And I have just downloaded this slipper pattern to comfort my chilly feet. (That’s the Ravelry Link – this is her blog)

All the while knowing that I have neglected the cabling that needs to be done for this scarf.

Oh, if only I had worked on this scarf more, I would have noticed my error sooner.

A scarf does not need to fit specific dimensions.  A scarf looks good on anyone, of any size, of any gender (although, I doubt most men would want a hot pink lacy scarf for the winter).  Therefore, in my mind, gauge does not matter.

But it does!  Gauge does matter if for no other purpose than yarn purchasing!  For instance, the Seaman’s Knot scarf I am working on calls for 200 grams of worsted weight.  I happened to have 200 grams of worsted weight.  So, I grabbed a circular that I thought looked right and cast on.  Now, I realized I have this much yarn:

To work this much of the scarf:

I have lined them up so they are a mirror of each other.  I have about 3 pattern repeats to go.  I doubt I am going to make it.  The scarf is pretty long already, so I am going to do the best doctoring I can.  But boy, do I feel silly.
