NaKniSweMo Day 4 (or) Does This Look Small to You?

I’ve been motoring through the sweater at a deplorably slow rate.  I think I may have been delusional when I thought making a large aran sweater in 30 days was totally possible.  I’m looking at a chart throughout most of the knitting, trying to keep track of stitches and at least once per round, tinking back a few stitches to fix a mistake.  I’m beginning to understand the nature of the cables, but I highly doubt I will be able to memorize the pattern well enough to zip through it.

I am absolutely in love with the way the cables are popping out of the fabric.  The color is even more stunning than what’s pictured here, and working with this yarn (Berrocco Vintage) is an absolute dream.  I have been a little addicted to watching the intricate cable patterns come together and counting how many stitches I’ve knit so far (5,152).  But, I didn’t get nearly as far as I was hoping to this weekend, and find myself already more than a day behind schedule.

Then, as I was laying the pattern out to photograph, I got the nagging feeling that it looks bit small.  Granted, it is scrunched up on the needles a bit and that does account for some of the size appearance, but I’m wondering if maybe I should  have gone up a needle size.

My fingers are crossed.  Are yours?

Do you have a spare set of circulars with a long cord that you can use as a stitch holder, to try it on provisionally? If it doesn’t fit over your head at this point, abandon ship.

Also, keep in mind that arans are ribbed like crazy, and ribbing makes things scrunch smaller/tighter than they will look when they’re actually worn.
